Track the competition and monitor the buzz around your brand or service with Google Alerts. Setting Google Alerts is easy, fast and free (my 3 favorite things) and it enables you to track content and discussions on the web and in social media. Google Alerts are email notices of relevant content you have designated with keywords or phrases. Setting a new alert is as simple as:
- Visit: www.google.com/alerts
- Enter the topic you wish to monitor, and then follow the instructions on the right side of the browser window.
- Once you’ve entered your topic or keywords selection, Google will show you a preview of the type of results you will receive via email.
- Select how frequent you want to receive notices on this topic and click ‘Create’ to set the alert.
You can also use SocialMention, a real-time search platform, to set email updates that track mentions on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.
This is a great tool for those who want to be ‘in the know’ of popular online social circles.
- Visit www.socialmention.com/alerts
- Enter your search phrase, this can be a company name or Twitter handle.
- Type in your email address and select ‘Create Alert’
It’s as easy as 1,2,3. If you know of any other useful tracking or alert tools please share with me in the comments below. xo
